My husband buys a new pair of shoes every eleven years. So I knew something momentous was afoot when he sent me a link to this pair of boots at Zappos.com, along with a note that said simply, "What do you think of these?" The boots, from a company called To Boot, are (inexplicably) called the Hughs and cost $381.95, which amortized over eleven years isn't that expensive. But even if the price were ungodly, my stated position toward shoes remains consistent and clear: I support all purchases, for the simple reason that the more other people buy, the less obvious it is that I own too many. On a practical note, these chocolate brown suede half boots turned out to be an excellent choice. They look good, not only with jeans, but with the three other pairs of pants my husband owns.
