With three daughters ages 16, 15 and 8, I have a hard time thinking of activities we all like to do together. Blokus falls into that rarified category. It's an addictive strategy game in which each player tries to connect all of her weirdly shaped pieces on the board while blocking opponents' attempts to do same. The game is quick -- it takes about 20 minutes to play a tense, emotionally fraught, fight-to-the-death round at the kitchen table -- and so far none of my children has noticed the educational component. Playing Blokus is an ingenious way to improve spatial abilities.
