This gives me the rare opportunity to share with you a valuable document, a list of gift possibilities that actually would please a teenage girl, a list vetted by an honest-to-god teenager. My annotated notes are in italics.
1. Boo Boo Zap ($18). (This is a code name for a product we used to think of as "blemish remover." Think Stri-Dex for a new, more fashionable generation.)
2. Coquette in chestnut ($74.95). (From the people who brought you puffy UGG boots comes a slipper. But the only acceptable color is sold out until March. Do not under any circumstances try to substitute cornflower, lilac, orchid or even sand. Chestnut. Or don't bother.)
3. Jodi Picoult anything. (The teen-empathizing author who wrote "You can't exist in this world without leaving a piece of yourself behind" in Vanishing Acts also has written the novels Keeping Faith, Mercy and Picture Perfect. Any author my kid loves enough to choose over TV, I love.)
4. iHome ($99.95). (Dock any iPod model to this home stereo system.)
