In response to today's newspaper column about handbags, I've been hearing a lot about purses. My position is that if there are four zillion handbags in the world, each deserves careful consideration. In that spirit, I offer some readers' suggestions.
"I am a bag nut too, quickly switching from one to the other at the drop of a temperature. My summer bag is a ravishing cinnamon raffia tote from Sans-Arcidet," writes Therry, who in the winter carries a small vintage hobo she bought for $5.74 at a local consignment shop.
(Read more here about the French Sans-Arcidet collection, created by three sisters who have a shop in the Marais. Metro stop: Filles-du Calvaire.)
From Malta, Maria writes, "My mother and I swear by Carpisa bags, however I have no idea whether or not they are available in USA."
(Ah, European websites. I must confess that after several minutes on the Carpisa site I'm not sure either. But I did see a really cute turtle walk across the screen about a thousand times.)
