I write a lot about myself and my own family, which makes me a particularly avid reader of others' personal stories. I like some writers for the grace and wit with which they treat their subjects. But some intimate confessions hold my attention for other reasons. I read this today in the Wall Street Journal:
My father-in-law's relationship with Brian's wife Colleen has been stormy. (She's not alone -- he's a man of strong convictions and he and I have battled at times.) Unfortunately, Gerry's dad has a habit of dragging money into conflicts, and on occasion he's threatened to cut my in-laws out of his will. It's a sore subject for us all, so I have no doubt a large financial gift to us would have led to further hurt feelings.
No doubt. But I'm sure this article was a balm. Enjoy next Thanksgiving.
